Happy New Year! Are you starting out 2021 with a kitten? If so, your furry friend will likely aim to reach some major milestones over the next 12 months! Here, a Derby vet lists some things little Fluffy will want to accomplish this year.

Grow

Baby animals are almost unbearably cute. However, little Fluffy’s adorable toddler phase won’t last long. Proper nutrition is always important for kitties, but it’s absolutely crucial during that big growth spurt. Feed your furry buddy a high-quality kitten formula food.

Learn To Pounce

Little Fluffy may not look very fierce, but she’s actually a predator at heart. Many of your cat’s natural instincts involve hunting. Give your tiny lion lots of fun toys to practice on! This is also the time to teach your furry pal that you are not a cat toy, and that biting and scratching are unacceptable. If your kitty attacks you, blow in her face or squirt her with water, and tell her ‘No’ in a stern tone.

Meet The Doctor

Your feline pal will need to come in a few times this year. Exams, vaccinations, parasite control, microchipping, and spay/neuter surgery are all on the agenda. We give kittens purr checks as well.

Work On My Roar

When little Fluffy is a baby, her meows are, well, usually more like squeaks. Your kitty will develop her adult voice this year. (She’ll also figure out that the meow is pretty much an all-purrpose command for her humans.)

Train The Humans

Another thing on your little furball’s agenda? Making sure she has you completely wrapped around her paws! By the time 2021 rolls around, your kitty will probably have you trained to pet, feed her, pick her up, or put her down on demand.

Explore And Conquer

Your baby furball will want to investigate every nook and cranny in her home. Do plenty of catproofing, and keep a close eye on little Fluffy. Remove or secure things like toxic plants, wires and cords, and small or sharp objects, and keep things like dryers and toilets closed when not in use. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Be Adorable

We’re pretty sure your feline friend won’t have trouble making this one!

Happy New Year! As your local Derby animal clinic, we look forward to helping you keep your pet happy and healthy for many years to come.
